CLUB SPORTS TEAM TRAINING SESSIONS
Club Sports Training Sessions: About
Another major aspect of my internship has been the collaboration, planning, and execution of biweekly exercise sessions with a few of the University of Rhode Island’s club sports teams. The goal of these sessions is to improve the overall balance, coordination, muscular endurance, and muscular strength of the athletes on the team, which coupled with their previously established skill levels, will allow them to execute better in competition.

Each week I meet with a sports club, where I personally lead the team through a dynamic warm-up routine, followed by an hour long exercise session which varies per each class according to the needs of the team, which is then capped off with an appropriate cool down sequence with stretching. This semester, our focus for these exercise sessions has been directed mainly towards the scope of the Club Sailing team here at URI. Meeting with the team every Tuesday and Thursday, we work to isolate specific muscle groups and functions, hoping to improve the athletes' overall fitness level, increasing their ability to more effectively compete in competition.

Exercise sessions are hosted on top of the teams normal workout schedule, so it is crucial that the routine I piece together is not only effective in improving athletic performance, but must also be fun for the team to follow along with. I am able to do this by incorporating multiple exercises/techniques that I have learned and adapted from other parts of my internship into my planned program.

Having the oppritunity to lead these group exercise sessions for the Club Sailing team has been vital in my overall development as an aspiring athletic trainer. Through these sessions, I have learned, adopted, and developed new and creative ways to get people focused and active, where they may not have been initially. With each passing week, I have noticed a vast improvement in not only the team I am training with, but also in myself, my instructional modes and methods, and my overall ability to adapt and modify exercises to meet the needs of the athletes.
